The Immigrant Experience

I have now lived many more years in Canada than I had in Romania but I still identify as an immigrant — somebody who has a divided sense of belonging: in between worlds, times, cultures.
I really felt out of place when I arrived in 1994. I had a strong accent, I didn’t understand the humour, I
lost all the friends I’d grown up with, only to become a lonely high school weirdo foreigner with a strange name.
Nevertheless, Central Tech had an exceptional art program, where I learned much about drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking.
