Florence

I completed my final year of OCAD at the Florence campus in 2007. 

I have always been really interested in the history of art, and to spend a year in this living museum was a very special and unforgettable experience. 

History is palpable there, and it is crushing for contemporary artists. It was therefore very interesting to think about how my work could draw on the past but also be informed by the present. 

I made a large group of distorted portraits of my colleagues. I took pictures of their faces as they shook their heads - I wanted to paint portraits that could not put on a face.
